Working with students that are in special education take more time, but they deserve the same quality of learning as anyone else. It takes patience and dedication, but in the end, these students will have a better quality of education.

Give Them Feedback Immediately.

When you are working with these students, giving them immediate feedback is very important. They are often full of energy and bounce from one task to another, so they need to know that they did a good job when they completed that task. That way, they start establishing that behavior as something that they did correctly.  When they do a task or behave correctly, make sure you give them a lot of overabundant praise.
Be Patient.

Working with students with special needs will require a lot of patience. These students will often get easily distracted, and it is your job to help keep them going. You can't get upset with them when they get off track. Often times, these students will have a large amount of energy and can't sit still for extended periods of time. Give them breaks and let them get up and work on another task. Students with learning disabilities will also need instructions repeated to them numerous times.

Every Student learns at a different pace.

As a teacher, you need to be prepared to deal with students of varying intellectual ability. A lot of these students will need one on one help, and it will feel impossible to focus on each student individually. Set time aside for group work as well as individual work times. Like I said, not every student learns at the same pace, and some learn better in groups and some learn better individually, so try and cater to all of their needs as much as possible.
