       1) Shaving Cream Spelling: No matter what grade you'll be teaching this can be fun! Give each child a small pile of shaving cream.  Have them spread it out so it kind of looks like a whiteboard.  After each child has does this, begin asking them to spell the words for the upcoming spelling test.  After they have written out in their shaving cream, ask them to spell it out loud.  This way the child is learning and having fun at the same time!

       2) Spelling Relay: First separate the spelling list into three categories: Easy, Medium, and Hard, without the class seeing. Then separate the class into two teams.  Have one student from each team go to the whiteboard and say which category they want a word from.  When they tell you which category, pick a word for them to spell, if the student spells their corresponding word correct then they receive the points, if not then they don't.  After the two beginning students have gone, repeat until each person has gone at least once.  You may repeat the spelling words twice to make sure each team has a chance at spelling each word or if a word was misspelled the first time then for a grader challenge.  Then whichever team has the most points, wins!
